CHRIS Horney
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Chris Horney serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Murphy Real Estate Services, and has been with the firm since 2013. With extensive expertise in real estate development, finance, and asset management, Chris drives the firm’s strategic vision, overseeing operations, financial planning, staff development, and business strategy. He leads the development team in analyzing and underwriting commercial real estate opportunities, guiding projects from site selection through construction.
Under Chris’s leadership, Murphy Real Estate Services has successfully delivered high-profile projects, including the transformative redevelopment of the historic Old Cook County Hospital and the ground-up construction of a seven-story office complex for Michigan State University in Grand Rapids. Other notable projects include The Paragon, a 500-unit luxury apartment tower in Chicago; 318 N Carpenter, a 105,000-square-foot office building in Fulton Market; the adaptive reuse of a Class C office into the 257-key Hyatt Centric “The Loop” Chicago; and the award-winning redevelopment of the Chicago Motor Club into a 143-key Hampton Inn.
Chris also created and spearheads the firm’s Net Lease Development initiatives, partnering with national and regional tenants to develop prime locations across the U.S., as well as a growing portfolio of daycare facilities in collaboration with leading early education providers.
A LEED-accredited professional, Chris is deeply engaged in the industry and community. He serves as Chair of the Real Estate Membership Committee for the Economic Club of Chicago, sits on the Building Renovation Board for First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, and holds leadership roles as Treasurer of the Purdue Sigma Chi House Corporation and President of the Purdue Sigma Chi Future Fund. In 2024, Chris was honored as a member of Crain’s Chicago Business 40 Under 40, recognizing his contributions to the real estate industry.
Prior to Murphy Real Estate Services, Chris held key roles at Inland American, Hersha Hospitality Trust, and Barton Malow, building a strong foundation in real estate investment and development. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS degree from Purdue University.
